OxfordLocal is an independent guide to Oxford, operated from the United Kingdom. Our website is oxfordlocal.org.

What data we collect

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people find us, and what devices they use. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymised usage data. This data is processed by Google under their privacy policy. We do not collect personally identifiable information through analytics.

Maps (Leaflet + OpenStreetMap)

Our maps use Leaflet with OpenStreetMap tile data. When you view a map, your browser loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap's servers. This transmits your IP address to OpenStreetMap. See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.

Location (optional)

The "Near me" feature on listing pages requests your location via your browser's geolocation API. This is entirely optional — your browser will ask permission before sharing your location. Your location data is processed locally in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

Search

Site search is powered by Pagefind and runs entirely in your browser. No search queries are sent to our servers.

Contact

If you email us at [email protected], we will receive your email address and message. We use this only to respond to your enquiry and do not add you to any mailing list.

Cookies

We use the following cookies:

• Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*): anonymised site usage tracking. Expires after 2 years.
• Theme preference (localStorage): remembers your dark/light mode choice. Stored locally, not transmitted.
• Seasonal banner (sessionStorage): remembers if you dismissed the seasonal info banner. Cleared when you close the tab.

Third-party services

• Google Fonts: loads typefaces from Google's CDN. See Google Fonts privacy.
• Cloudflare Pages: hosts the site. See Cloudflare privacy policy.
• OpenStreetMap: provides map tiles (see above).

OxfordLocal uses images sourced from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) or compatible free licenses. We are grateful to the photographers and contributors who make these images available.

Map images on this site are generated using OpenStreetMap data, available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL), rendered via Leaflet. Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. In practice, we hold very little — only analytics cookies and any emails you've sent us. To exercise your rights, email [email protected].
