Date Night in Oxford

Romantic spots, atmospheric bars, and evening walks — the best places for a date in Oxford.

Dinner

  • Kazbar — Moroccan lanterns, strong cocktails, sharing plates. The most atmospheric restaurant on the Cowley Road, and one of the most romantic in Oxford.
  • Turl Street Kitchen — more casual, but the evening menu is genuinely interesting. Good wine, warm room, interesting food. And your money goes to charity.

Drinks

  • The Turf Tavern — finding it down the alleyway in the dark is its own adventure. The beer gardens are magical on a warm summer evening, with the medieval wall lit up above you.
  • The Lamb & Flag — small, quiet, candlelit in the evenings. Much more intimate than the bigger pubs.

Evening walks

  • The High Street after dark — the colleges are floodlit, the streets empty out, and the city transforms. Walk from Magdalen Bridge to Carfax and you'll have the most beautiful urban walk in England largely to yourself.
  • Along the Cherwell — in summer, walk north through University Parks along the river. The light through the trees is beautiful at dusk.

Something different

  • Punting at dusk — Magdalen Bridge punting stations stay open late in summer. Take a bottle of wine, punt up to the Botanic Garden, and drift back as the sun sets. This is peak Oxford romance.
