South Oxford parkrun (Hinksey Park)
South Oxford's neighbourhood parkrun — compact, friendly, and close to the city centre.
The South Oxford parkrun at Hinksey Park is the most central of Oxford's parkruns, tucked into the green space between Abingdon Road and the Thames. It's smaller and more intimate than Cutteslowe — fewer runners, a tighter community, and a course that stays entirely within the park and its surroundings.
It's a good parkrun, not a spectacular one. The course is flat and fairly fast, though the multi-lap format means you'll be lapping slower runners by the second half if you're quick. The park itself is pleasant — there's a pool, tennis courts, and a decent playground — but it lacks the open grandeur of running across Cutteslowe or the wild terrain of Shotover.
The route
Start: Near the Hinksey Park playground on Lake Street
The course is a multi-lap route around the park and along the adjacent paths. It's flat throughout, on a mix of tarmac paths and firm grass. The laps are short, which means the field spreads out quickly and you'll find your own space.
The route takes you past the outdoor pool (Hinksey Heated Pool, open in summer — worth knowing about separately), around the perimeter of the park, and back. It's well-marshalled and clearly marked.

Who it's for
This is the neighbourhood parkrun. It suits south Oxford residents who don't want to trek to Cutteslowe, students living near Folly Bridge, and anyone who prefers a smaller, quieter event. The close-to-town location makes it easy to combine with brunch at one of the Cowley Road cafes afterwards. Not the fastest course, not the most scenic — but reliable, welcoming, and convenient.
